Reporting Manager, Finance

Location: Toronto, ON

Benecaid is a third-party administrator of health benefit plans for small and medium sized businesses. Since 2000, Benecaid has been one of the fastest growing providers of benefits in Canada with over $90 million in coverage provided and has helped over 150,000 Canadians providing the benefits they want.

The role is responsible to provide support to the financial department by managing hands-on the financial reporting and accounting tasks for Benecaid.

Reporting to the Senior Director Finance, this role is part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate month-end and year-end accounting: prepare consolidation and intercompany balancing entries, expense allocations, reconciliation of Trust assets and liabilities, etc.
  • Compile monthly financial statement package, including any supporting KPIs, analysis, and notes.
  • Review or prepare AR and AP sub-ledger reconciliations, bank reconciliations, client account reconciliations, prepare various reports for senior management.
  • Lead effort to support the internal and external audits. Provide various support for trustees.
  • Organize the budgeting and forecasting process. Work with the senior management team to help define and fine-tune the strategy for business. Produce annual master budget and update quarterly flexible budget.
  • Investigate and monitor variances against the annual budget.
  • Coordinate full cycle of payments: customer deposits, customer claims, vendor payments, internal and external commissions.
  • Compile and distribute annual T4As and T4 information returns for brokers.
  • Research ways to continuously improve processes and procedures, identify inefficiencies and implement appropriate plan of action. Ensure that quality control and service standards are attained with every transaction.
  • Maintain provincial registrations and licensing for the corporation. Prepare and manage various regulatory filings.
  • Provide support for the renewal of all corporate insurance policies including E&O, D&O, crime and cyber.
  • Contribute in the identification and management of risks and exposures to ensure compliance with legislation, contract and service agreements and Benecaid’s policy and management processes.
  • Review or complete various tax returns and remittances to provincial and federal authorities.
  • Assist with other accounting projects as required.

Core Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University Degree, with a major in Accounting or Business desirable.
  • CPA member or student in the CPA program of studies.
  • Sound knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of direct and indirect tax.

  • Excellent with numbers and with an analytical acumen. Strong knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks, Peoplesoft, SAP)
